To purchase, activate or manage a subscription an anonymous CyberGhost account is mandatory. To check for the current state just have a quick look on the upper main menu bar:
You don't have an account: This is usually the case with all new users, resp. users of the Free Service. Just click right away on the button 'Upgrade now' to purchase a subscription. A new account will be created automatically for you - without any interference on the fly and in the background.
You own an account, but aren't logged-in: If you want to purchase a CyberGhost Premium subscription, please log-in to your account with your credentials (user name and password), before you click on 'Upgrade'. This is important, if you for example want to keep an existing account, e. g. to avoid loosing remaining run time.
If the button 'Upgrade' is missing, the recent account is already equipped with a Premium subscription. If you need or want to buy another subscription, an extension or an upgrade, please use the account management.
Your order takes place directly in the CyberGhost client program interface. Here you first decide for the payment interval (monthly or yearly) and then enter your payment details. Payment will be processed by a third party service to avoid privacy breaches based on common data bases.
Please note that an email address is mandatory to deliver purchase details and your invoice. Once done, check your details and acknowledge that you buy a subscription with recurring payment cycles (monthly or yearly, depending on your plan). Click on 'Next' and confirm the nature of the ordered subscription by clicking on 'Buy now'.
Special conditions (e. g. half the price) are only valid for the first payment, while the next payment reflects the regular subscription price.
After the payment process ended successfully you will receive a confirmation and your credentials to use your subscription with CyberGhost:
Click on 'Activate your new plan now!'. The system will react immediately and activate your subscription on the account, for which you see username and password right below. When ready, a 'Plan changed' message informs you of the activation of your subscription, while you have been logged in automatically.
Very important: Please change your login data immediately in your account management.
How to change login data
You should change your interim user name and password as soon as possible (so right away), either directly on the sales conformation page or in the start window of the client. If you decide for the latter, first click on the menu entry 'My Account'.
The account setup wizard identifies the interim account as such and helps you to create individual log-in data.
Enter a user name and an email address for account recovery and click on 'Next' to enter a password. Once done you will also receive a PUK (for account recovery reasons as well) and the possibility to print or store your credentials. Please do so, because CyberGhost does not store your account credentials.
If you are not logged in the account used for ordering your subscription, you are limited to the Free Service. A subscription CAN NOT be used with different accounts. It is bound to the account originally used for purchasing.
All personal data such as credit card number, PayPal account, names, etc. will stay private with the payment provider and never be submitted to third parties, not even CyberGhost itself.
What could go wrong?
The 'Upgrade' button is still visible: Despite your purchase you still seem to run the Free Service. Please log-in manually with the credentials displayed in the confirmation page after purchase (instruction). In case you don't have them anymore, restore your account by following the steps described in this article.
Fallback to Free Service after change of credentials: Log out of the current account and log in with the changed credentials manually.
