How do I configure the Windows Firewall to unblock CyberGhost?

This is how you configure your Windows Firewall in case you suspect it blocks CyberGhost from working correctly:

[Windows 7]     [Windows 8/8.1]     [Windows 10]

Windows 7

You access the Windows Firewall in Windows 7 by selecting 'Start > Control Panel > Windows Firewall'.

Now click on the left on 'Allow an app or feature through Windows Firewall' and then on the button 'Change settings'. Activate all boxes for the following entries. In case they are missing click on the 'Add program ...' button and specify the program files manually.

  • CyberGhost.exe (available in the CyberGhost VPN program directory: C:\programs\CyberGhost).
  • wyUpdate.exe (available in the CyberGhost VPN program directory: C:\programs\CyberGhost)
  • OpenVPN.exe (available in a sub-folder of the the CyberGhost VPN program directory: C:\programs\CyberGhost\Data\OpenVPN)

Click ‚OK‘ to confirm.

Return to the firewall and make sure that:

  • The new 'CyberGhost.exe' check box is active.
  • The setting applies to public and private computers.

Windows 8/8.1

You access the Windows Firewall in Windows 8 by selecting 'Charms Bar > Settings > Control Panel > System and Security > Windows Firewall'. Click on 'Allow an app or feature through Windows Firewall', then click on the button 'Change settings'. Activate all boxes for the following entries. In case they are missing click on the 'Add program ...' button and specify the program files manually.

  • CyberGhost.exe (available in the CyberGhost VPN program directory: C:\programs\CyberGhost).
  • wyUpdate.exe (available in the CyberGhost VPN program directory: C:\programs\CyberGhost)
  • OpenVPN.exe (available in a sub-folder of the the CyberGhost VPN program directory: C:\programs\CyberGhost\Data\OpenVPN)

Windows 10

You access the Windows firewall in Windows 10 by clicking on the Start button and typing 'Control Panel'. The last entry is 'Windows Firewall'. Click on it to open.

Click on 'Allow an app or feature through Windows Firewall', then click on the button 'Change settings'. Activate all boxes for the following entries. In case they are missing click on the 'Add program ...' button and specify the program files manually.
