With CyberGhost for Linux, you can take advantage of our Streaming-Optimized servers to access region-restricted content from websites such as BBC iPlayer UK or Netflix (US, UK or FR and DE).
In order to accomplish this, you'll need to connect to one of our servers optimized for this purpose. This is done fairly quickly by instructing the app to connect through a 'streaming' server > specify the 'website' (BBC/Netflix, etc) and simulated 'country' (which version of Netflix for example, US/FR/DE, etc).
The process is detailed below in 3 easy steps (we'll use Netflix US for this example):
1. With CyberGhost installed (as seen here) > Open a Terminal window
NOTE: You do not need to navigate to CyberGhost's folder, you can type in the commands right away.
2. First, we need to fetch the list of supported Streaming Services and from which country
NOTE: Once you get used to the commands, you do NOT need to fetch the country/services list each time, you can just type in the command as soon as you open a Terminal window.
- in Terminal type in :
cyberghostvpn --streaming --country-code
3. Once you've made your decision (Netflix US will be used in this example), you're ready to type in the command which will include server type (Streaming), Service ('Netflix US') and country (US) + the 'connect' command.
The CONNECT command for Netflix US would be:
sudo cyberghostvpn --streaming 'Netflix US' --country-code US --connect
NOTE: The quotes when typing in 'Netflix US' are mandatory as the name of the service includes a space and Linux needs the quotes to be added when using 2 words in order to read it as a single string (such as Netflix US).
TIP: If you wish to filter all available Streaming Services in a single country, let's say France, use this command: 'cyberghostvpn --streaming --country-code FR' and you'll see all of the French Streaming Services supported, then you can connect to the desired service as shown above (For Canal+, the command would be:
sudo cyberghostvpn --streaming 'Canal+' --country-code FR --connect
