This guide explains common causes of connection leaks and how to prevent them while using CyberGhost VPN.

Disable IPv6
CyberGhost VPN currently supports IPv4 traffic. If IPv6 is enabled on your device or router, it may cause connection issues or expose information outside the VPN tunnel.
Check whether IPv6 is enabled on your device or router and disable it if necessary. To learn how to disable IPv6 on your device, read our guides for each device here.
Check for DNS Leaks
A DNS leak occurs when DNS requests bypass the VPN tunnel and are sent through a third-party DNS server.
To check for DNS leaks while connected to a CyberGhost VPN server, use our DNS leak test.
The results should only show DNS servers associated with your CyberGhost VPN connection. If the test shows DNS servers from your ISP or another third party, you may be experiencing a DNS leak.
For more information, read our guides to changing DNS settings on Windows and macOS.
Prevent WebRTC Leaks
A WebRTC leak can reveal your real IP address to websites, even when you're connected to a VPN.
To reduce the risk of WebRTC leaks, review your browser settings and disable WebRTC where available. For more information, read our guide to preventing WebRTC leaks.
Note: Disabling WebRTC may affect features that rely on real-time communication, such as video conferencing, voice calls, screen sharing, and some peer-to-peer applications. If you regularly use services like Zoom, Google Meet, Microsoft Teams, or browser-based calling tools, test them after making any WebRTC-related changes.
