This article explains the basic settings and features of the CyberGhost VPN app for Fire TV and Fire Stick devices.
How to Access Settings
To access your Settings menu, tap on the gear symbol and view the main categories:
General
In the General tab, you’ll find the following:
- Username: Shows the active account name or e-mail address used when registering. You can change your username in your CyberGhost online account.
- Plan: Your type of subscription.
- Active devices: Number of active devices. You can connect to CyberGhost VPN on up to 7 devices at the same time. To remove or add a device, please visit your online account.
- Renews on: Shows the end date of your current subscription, on which date your subscription will renew (unless canceled).
- Use Domain Fronting: This feature can help CyberGhost connect if a network blocks access to *.cyberghostvpn.com domains or the related IP addresses.
- Share network data for troubleshooting: When this setting is enabled, we collect a limited amount of anonymous data, including device type and app version. This data cannot be linked to an individual, but it helps us scale our infrastructure and troubleshoot potential issues.
- Privacy preferences: Let you choose whether to share app analytics that help us understand performance, as well as marketing data that helps us see how people discover the app and whether our offers and content are relevant.
- Article catalog: Displays all articles available in the application.
- Report a problem: A direct link to send requests to our support team or share your opinion about the CyberGhost app. Feedback helps us improve, and we’re eager to hear your thoughts.
- App Version, Terms & Conditions, Privacy policy, Imprint: Legal and internal information.
- Log out: Logs you out of the currently active account and returns the app to the start page, where you can log in again.
VPN
- Connection Checker: Checks whether your internet connection is working properly and whether your device can connect to the CyberGhost network. Select it, and then press Run test to check device reachability, internet access, and the VPN connection.
- Dedicated IP: Here, you can add and activate your Dedicated IP.
- VPN protocol: Choose between OpenVPN and WireGuard® as your default protocol. 'Auto' will connect you with WireGuard® by default.
- Small packet size: Uses a smaller MTU (maximum transmission unit) size, which may help if you experience connection or speed issues on Fire TV. CyberGhost adjusts this setting based on the capabilities of the current network.
- Use a random port: Allows CyberGhost to connect through a randomly selected port instead of a fixed port. The port changes with each new connection, which may help if the network blocks or slows VPN traffic through specific ports.
- Content Blocker: Enabling this feature can help block domains used for ads, trackers, and malware.
- App Split Tunnel: Lets you choose which apps use the VPN tunnel and which apps connect outside the VPN. By default, CyberGhost routes traffic from all apps through the VPN.
Wi-Fi
- Wi-Fi Protection: Lets you choose how CyberGhost responds when your device connects to secure, unsecured, or specific Wi-Fi networks. You can also manage saved Wi-Fi networks and choose a different action for each one.
You can choose from the following actions:
- Ask: CyberGhost asks what to do when your device first connects to a Wi-Fi network. You can change this choice later in the Manage Wi-Fi Networks settings menu.
- Protect: CyberGhost automatically starts a VPN connection when your device connects to the selected Wi-Fi network.
- Disable protection: CyberGhost disables the VPN connection when your device connects to the selected Wi-Fi network.
- Ignore: CyberGhost takes no action when your device switches to the selected Wi-Fi network. If the VPN is already connected, it stays connected. If it’s disconnected, it stays disconnected.
