This guide explains how to use a VPN on devices that don't support VPN apps or manual VPN settings, such as smart TVs, satellite receivers, e-readers, and game consoles.
You can't install CyberGhost VPN directly on these devices. However, you can route their connection through a computer or router that already runs CyberGhost VPN.
There are a few ways to do this.

Share a VPN Connection over Ethernet
You can share your VPN connection from your Windows PC to another device using an Ethernet cable. Your PC connects to the internet through CyberGhost VPN, and your device connects to your PC through the cable. This means all traffic from your device goes through the VPN on your PC.
To use this option, you need:
- A Windows desktop PC with two network adapters (one to connect to the internet, one to connect to your device via cable)
- An Ethernet cable
- CyberGhost VPN installed on the Windows PC
For detailed steps, see our guide on sharing a VPN connection over Ethernet.
Share a VPN Connection over Wi-Fi
You can turn your Windows PC into a Wi-Fi hotspot and share your VPN connection through it. Your PC connects to the internet through CyberGhost VPN, and your device connects to the PC's hotspot just like it would connect to any Wi-Fi network.
Any internet traffic from your device then goes through the VPN connection on your PC, so your device gets VPN protection without needing to support it directly.
For detailed steps, see our guide on sharing a VPN connection over Wi-Fi.
Use a Proxy Server on Your Local Network
A proxy server is a computer on your home network that handles internet traffic on behalf of your device. Instead of your device connecting to the internet directly, it sends all its traffic through the proxy, which then routes it through CyberGhost VPN.
To use this option, you need a computer on your home network that is running a proxy server and connected to the internet through CyberGhost VPN.
Before configuring your device, note down:
- The local IP address of the computer running the proxy server
- The proxy port number
Then open your device's network settings and enter the proxy IP address and port number in the proxy fields. Leave UPnP settings unchanged and save your changes.
If the setup works, your device's internet traffic will be routed through CyberGhost VPN via the proxy server.
Use a VPN-Compatible Router
On some routers, you can set up CyberGhost VPN directly. Every device connected to that router automatically uses the VPN without any extra configuration on each device.
Note that this only applies to devices connected to that specific router. Devices connected directly to your modem will not go through the VPN.
Also, not all routers support this. You need a router running custom firmware such as DD-WRT or FreshTomato to use this option.
For detailed steps, see our guide on setting up OpenVPN on DD-WRT routers.
