This guide will show you how to share your CyberGhost VPN connection from your Mac to your PlayStation using a built-in macOS feature called Internet Sharing. Because PlayStation consoles don't support VPN apps directly, this method lets your Mac route all of your console's traffic through the VPN automatically.
Step 1: Install the VPN on Your Mac
Download and install CyberGhost VPN on your Mac. If you need help with this part, refer to CyberGhost's official Mac installation guide.
Step 2: Check Your Mac Has Two Network Interfaces
For Internet Sharing to work, your Mac needs to have two network cards: one interface for the internet connection and a separate one for the PlayStation. Here are the possible combinations:
- Wi-Fi to router + Ethernet to PlayStation: Your Mac connects to the internet over Wi-Fi as normal, and your PlayStation connects to your Mac via an Ethernet cable. This is the most common and reliable setup.
- Ethernet to router + Wi-Fi to PlayStation: Your Mac connects to the internet via an Ethernet cable to your router, and your PlayStation connects to your Mac over Wi-Fi.
To see what your Mac has available, open System Settings > Network. You should see your interfaces listed on this screen. If Ethernet isn’t available, you may need a USB-C or Thunderbolt to Ethernet adapter so you can physically connect it to your router using a cable.
Step 3: Connect Your PlayStation to Your Mac
- If using Wi-Fi to router + Ethernet to PlayStation: Plug one end of a standard Ethernet cable into your Mac's Ethernet port (or adapter) and the other end into your PlayStation.
- If using Ethernet to router + Wi-Fi to PlayStation: Plug one end of a standard Ethernet cable into your Mac's Ethernet port (or adapter) and the other end into your router. Your PlayStation will connect to your Mac over Wi-Fi in a later step.
Step 4: Enable Internet Sharing on Your Mac
- Open System Settings from the Apple menu in the top-left corner.
- Go to General > Sharing.
- Click the i icon next to Internet Sharing but don't turn it on yet.
If using Wi-Fi to router + Ethernet to PlayStation
- Click Share your connection from and select Wi-Fi.
- Under To devices using, enable the toggle next to the active Ethernet option.
- Click Done, then toggle Internet Sharing on and confirm when prompted.
If using Ethernet to router + Wi-Fi to PlayStation
- In Share your connection from, select Ethernet.
- Under To devices using, enable the toggle next to Wi-Fi.
- Configure the Wi-Fi by setting a network name and password. Click OK to confirm.
- Click Done. Then, toggle Internet Sharing on and confirm when prompted.
Step 5: Connect to CyberGhost VPN on Your Mac
Open the CyberGhost app, choose your preferred server, and connect. Make sure the VPN connection is active before moving on to the next step.
Step 6: Set Up the Network on Your PlayStation
PS5
- Go to Settings > Network > Settings > Set Up Internet Connection.
- For Ethernet, select Set Up Wired LAN > Connect. For Wi-Fi, choose your Mac's shared network from the list and enter the password, then select Connect.
- Select Test Internet Connection.
PS4
- Go to Settings > Network > Set Up Internet Connection.
- Select Use a LAN Cable > Easy for Ethernet, or Use Wi-Fi > Easy for Wi-Fi.
- If connecting via Wi-Fi, choose your Mac's shared network from the list and enter the password.
- Select Test Internet Connection.
Once the test is complete and your PlayStation shows a successful connection, all of your console's internet traffic will be routed through CyberGhost VPN on your Mac.
