There are a number of factors that could contribute to why a VPN connection could not be established. This topic covers various troubleshooting steps to help resolve connectivity issues.
After each step, check if the issue still remains.
Here is what you should try at first:
- Change the default protocol.
For the CyberGhost Linux CLI app, you will find 2 protocols available: OpenVPN and WireGuard. If you have experienced an unstable connection, switch to WireGuard and see if the problem persists:
-
- OpenVPN : cyberghostvpn --country-code US --openvpn --connect
- Select WireGuard® as the connection protocol : cyberghostvpn --country-code US --wireguard --connect
- TCP OpenVPN : cyberghostvpn --country-code US --tcp --connect
- UDP OpenVPN : cyberghostvpn --country-code US --udp --connect
-
Try different server locations.
Due to a series of factors, one location may offer a more stable connection than others.
-
Reinstall the application:
Type the following command to remove the app:
sudo cyberghostvpn --uninstall
