This article will show you how you can set up the CyberGhost CLI app on Linux.
CyberGhost VPN is compatible with the following Linux operating systems:
Debian-based
Ubuntu 20.04 | 22.04 PopOS
RPM-based
Fedora 29 | 30 | 31 CentOS 7
Note: Before getting started, for a better user experience, please make sure that your CyberGhost account password does not contain any of the following special symbols: "$" "⁎" "%" "[ ]"
Follow these steps to set up CyberGhost VPN on your Linux device. For this tutorial, we'll be using Ubuntu 20.04.3, but the same steps apply to all supported distributions.
- Log in to your online account.
- Click Download Hub.
- Choose Configure next to CyberGhost VPN for Linux.
- Select your Linux distribution under Server Distribution.
- Click Download App. This will automatically download the Linux CLI configuration file (zipped).
- Click Extract Here to unzip the contents of the compressed folder to your computer.
- For the purpose of this tutorial, we will rename the extracted folder to "cyberghost".
- Open a Terminal window in the cyberghost folder by right-clicking on the folder's name and selecting Open in Terminal.
Type in "sudo bash install.sh" (no quotes) > press Enter and confirm your sudo access by writing the sudo password. - Note: Make sure you choose "Y" (yes) if asked to install any additional packages, like Python 3 and OpenVPN.
- Enter your CyberGhost username and password to confirm the installation.
- Once you see the Install completed... message, you're ready to start using the CyberGhost VPN app.
You can type in sudo cyberghostvpn to see the list of available commands.
