The CyberGhost VPN CLI app supports the WireGuard® VPN protocol. WireGuard is a modern VPN protocol designed to deliver fast performance, strong security, and efficient connections.
Connect Using WireGuard
To connect with WireGuard, add the --wireguard flag to your connection command.
Connect to a Standard VPN Server
On your Linux device, open Terminal.
Find the country code of the server you want to connect to and enter the connection command for that country. For example, if you wanted to connect to the US, you would type the following command:
sudo cyberghostvpn --traffic --country-code US --wireguard --connect
Note: To connect to a different country, replace the two-letter country code (for example, US) with the code for your preferred location.
If prompted, enter your Linux account password and press Enter.
You’ll receive a confirmation message once the system establishes the connection.
Connect to a Streaming-Optimized Server
To connect to a streaming-optimized CyberGhost server using the WireGuard protocol, open Terminal.
Note: To comply with the streaming platform's Terms of Use and CyberGhost Terms of Service, you should connect to a server location that matches the country where you’re currently located.
Type the following command to view the available streaming servers and supported regions:
cyberghostvpn --streaming --country-code
Find the server you want to connect to and type the connection code into Terminal to connect to it. For example, if you're a US user, you’d type the following command to connect to a Netflix US server:
sudo cyberghostvpn --streaming "Netflix US" --country-code US --wireguard --connect
If prompted, enter your Linux account password and press Enter.
You’ll receive a confirmation message once the system establishes the connection.

Connect to a P2P-Optimized Server
To connect to a P2P-optimized CyberGhost server using the WireGuard protocol, open Terminal.
Note: P2P file sharing laws vary by country. In many countries, downloading or distributing copyrighted content without permission is illegal. Always check the laws in your country before using P2P networks, and ensure you only share files you have the legal right to distribute. Users are solely responsible for ensuring their use of P2P networks complies with all applicable laws, regulations, and third-party terms.
Type the following command below to show the list of countries that support P2P traffic:
cyberghostvpn --torrent --country-code
Find the country you want to connect to, and enter the relevant command for that country. For example, if you wanted to connect to the US, you would type the following command:
sudo cyberghostvpn --torrent --country-code US --wireguard --connect
If prompted, enter your Linux account password and press Enter.
You’ll receive a confirmation message once the system establishes the connection.
Note: To connect to a different country, swap the two-letter country code (for example, US) with the code for your preferred location. You can find a full list of available country codes in our server selection guide here.
Troubleshooting
- When connecting to a streaming service, the service name must match exactly as shown in the CLI output.
