This article will show you how you can use an activation key or a prepaid key to subscribe to CyberGhost VPN.
Note: You will receive an activation key with physical gift cards or promotional events. Subscriptions purchased through our website, App Store, or Google Play Store are automatically activated without the use of an activation key.
First you will need a CyberGhost account. If you do not have one, you can create one for free. Please see our guide on how to create an account here.
To activate a key, first go to your online account management.
- Login with your credentials and expand the menu by clicking on your profile logo in the upper right corner of the screen.
- Select Account Settings.
- Select Use your activation key.
- Enter your activation key in the specified box, and select Use.
Encountered issues? This might be why
- You already used your key - All activation keys can only be used once. To use CyberGhost VPN on other devices, simply log into the app with your credentials. You do not have to activate every device.
- Your key has expired - For physical gift cards, please check your box for the expiry date.
- Downgrades are not possible - Make sure your activation key corresponds to the subscription type active on your account.
- You have an active subscription that you are trying to extend with an activation key - Prepaid subscriptions or gift cards cannot be used to extend subscriptions purchased from our website, Google Play Store, or App Store. If you want to force it, you must cancel your old subscription and request a refund provided it falls within our refund policy. Note: You will lose all your remaining runtime of your subscription this way.
- You are trying to extend a promotional subscription - Promotional subscriptions cannot be extended by another activation key. Using an activation key will replace your remaining subscription and you will lose any remaining runtime.
Note: Subscriptions coming from physical gift cards are not covered by our refund policy.
