This article will show you how you can use an activation key or a prepaid key to subscribe to CyberGhost VPN.
Note: You will receive an activation key with physical gift cards or promotional events. Subscriptions purchased through our website, App Store, or Google Play Store are automatically activated without the use of an activation key.
Step 1. Set Up a CyberGhost Account
First, you’ll need a CyberGhost account. If you don’t have one, you can create one for free. Please see our guide on how to create an account.
Step 2. Log In and Activate Your Key
To activate a key:
- Go to your online account dashboard.
- Log in with your credentials.
- Click on your profile logo in the upper right corner of the screen and select Account settings.

Select Use your activation key.

Enter your activation key in the specified box, and select Use.
Encountered Issues? This Might Be Why
- Your activation key has already been used: Activation keys can only be redeemed once. To use CyberGhost VPN on additional devices, simply sign into the app using your existing account credentials. You don’t need to activate each device separately.
- Your activation key has expired: Activation keys must be redeemed before their expiration date. If you’re using a physical gift card, check the packaging for the expiry date.
- The activation key isn’t compatible with your current subscription: Activation keys can only be used with matching subscription types. They can’t be used to downgrade or change an existing subscription.
- You’re trying to extend an active subscription with an activation key: Prepaid subscriptions and gift cards can’t be used to extend subscriptions purchased through the CyberGhost website, Google Play, or the App Store. To use the activation key, you would first need to cancel the existing subscription and, if eligible, request a refund under the applicable refund policy. Please note that any remaining subscription time will be lost.
- You’re trying to extend a promotional subscription: Promotional subscriptions can’t be extended with an activation key. Redeeming an activation key will replace the existing promotional subscription.
Note: Subscriptions coming from physical gift cards or third-party sellers are not covered by our refund policy.
