This guide shows you how to install the CyberGhost VPN command-line (CLI) app on a supported Linux distribution.
CyberGhost VPN supports a wide range of distributions, including recent versions of Ubuntu, Debian, Fedora, and Alma & Rocky. Although the screenshots in this guide were taken on Ubuntu, the installation process is very similar across supported distributions.
Before installing the CyberGhost VPN CLI app on your Linux device, make sure you have an active CyberGhost subscription and that your operating system is fully up to date.
| Note: If your CyberGhost account password contains special characters such as $, *, %, [, or ], you may encounter authentication issues during installation. If this happens, consider temporarily changing your password before installing the CLI app. |
Download the Linux CLI App
- Sign in to your CyberGhost account.
- In the account dashboard, open the Download Hub.
- Locate CyberGhost VPN for Linux and select Configure.
- Choose your Linux distribution.
- Select Download App.
Install the CLI App
After downloading the app, navigate to the folder where the installation package was saved (typically the Downloads folder), then complete the following steps:
- Right-click on the downloaded file and select Extract.
- Open the extracted folder, then right-click on an empty space and select Open in Terminal.
- Inside the terminal, type the sudo bash install.sh command.
- If prompted, enter your administrator (sudo) password and press Enter.
- If prompted, install additional dependencies by entering Y to continue.
- Type your CyberGhost account credentials and press Enter to complete the installation.
When the installation finishes, you'll see a confirmation message indicating that the CLI app has been installed successfully.
Verify the Installation
To confirm that the CyberGhost CLI app is installed correctly and view available commands, run: sudo cyberghostvpn
This will display a list of available options, confirming that the CLI app is working properly.
