CyberGhost VPN’s leak protection feature is built for better digital security on macOS. When your Mac connects to an attacker-controlled malicious access point - which could include untrusted Wi-Fi networks in airports or cafes - your device may leak traffic in cleartext. Enabling CyberGhost VPN’s leak protection will automatically push all macOS traffic through the VPN, giving you greater safety against data leaks.
Note: By default, certain macOS features such as AirDrop and AirPlay were engineered to operate outside the VPN. Leak protection will route these features through the VPN for added security, but they may not work as expected.

Enable Leak Protection
Note: Make sure you are using the latest version of the CyberGhost macOS app. At the moment, leak protection is not compatible with the WireGuard® protocol.
- On the app, click the cog icon in the upper right-hand corner.
- Click Preferences...
- Under the General tab, toggle Leak Protection on.
- If you don’t see the Leak protection feature, ensure your VPN Protocol is set to IKEv2.
Allow Access to Devices on Local Network
To keep you safe from data leaks, using the VPN will disconnect you from other devices on your Wi-Fi network. If you trust your network, you may choose to remain connected to these devices by enabling Allow access to devices on local network.
To enable Allow access to devices on local network:
- On the app, click the cog icon in the upper right-hand corner.
- Click Preferences...
- Under the General tab, toggle Allow access to devices on local network on.
