How to Use the Advanced Features from CyberGhost VPN on macOS

CyberGhost VPN for macOS includes a few advanced features that add to your security and privacy. They run on CyberGhost VPN's servers rather than on your Mac, so they work in the background without extra setup on your device.

Privacy Settings

Block Content

Block content filters ads, which can help pages load faster. It can also block potentially dangerous websites and reduce some online tracking.

1. Open CyberGhost VPN, and select the arrow to expand the menu.

2. Under Advanced Features, select Privacy settings.

3. Turn on Block content.

Note: Block content is only available when using the WireGuard protocol. To switch protocols, see our guide on changing the VPN protocol.

Smart rules

WIFI rules

Wi-Fi rules let you choose what CyberGhost VPN does when your Mac connects to a new network. To open them:

1. Open CyberGhost VPN, and select the arrow to expand the menu.

2. Under Advanced Features, select Smart rules.

3. Select the Wifi rules tab.

You can set a separate action for :

• New open Wi-Fi: Networks with no password, such as many public hotspots.
• New encrypted Wi-Fi: Password-protected networks.

For each type, you can choose one of these actions:

• Ask me what to do: Shows a pop-up when the app detects a Wi-Fi network, asking whether you want to secure it with a VPN connection.
• Ignore: Takes no action when a network is detected. You can still connect manually.
• Always connect: Connects to the best available server automatically, with no pop-up.
• Disconnect VPN: Prevents the VPN from connecting on that type of network.

Startup rules:

Startup rules, which also sits under Smart rules in the settings, let CyberGhost VPN act automatically when your Mac starts. You can choose:

• Auto-connect on startup: Connects automatically when your Mac starts. You can choose which location it connects to.
• Auto app launch: Opens an app of your choice once CyberGhost VPN has connected.
