Requirements
For ICS to work, your PC needs two network interfaces: one to connect to the internet and one to connect to your Xbox.
The most common setup is connecting your PC to the internet via Wi-Fi and your Xbox to your PC via an Ethernet cable. If your PC only has one network interface, you'll need to add a second one via a USB or PCIe network adapter.
Note: If you need to share a wireless internet connection instead, see our guide on how to share a VPN connection over Wi-Fi on Windows 10.
Step 1: Install CyberGhost VPN on Your PC
Install and activate CyberGhost VPN on your Windows PC. For instructions, see our guide on how to set up CyberGhost VPN on Windows.
Step 2: Connect Your Xbox to Your PC
Using an Ethernet cable, connect your Xbox directly to your PC. Make sure both devices are powered on before proceeding.
Step 3: Enable Internet Connection Sharing on Your PC
- Open CyberGhost VPN and connect to a server.
- Press the Windows Key + X and select Network Connections.
-
Right-click the active connection used by CyberGhost VPN and select Properties.
-
Go to the Sharing tab.
-
Check the box labeled Allow other network users to connect through this computer’s internet connection.
-
From the dropdown menu, select the Ethernet connection that’s connected to your Xbox.
- Click OK to save the changes.
Step 4: Connect Your Xbox
On your Xbox, press the Xbox button to open the guide, then select Profile & system > Settings > General > Network settings.
If you connected your Xbox to your PC via Ethernet cable, your network settings will be configured automatically.
If you connected your Xbox to your PC via Wi-Fi, select Set up wireless network, choose your PC's shared network from the list, and enter the password when prompted.
Step 5: Configure a Manual IP Address (Optional)
By default, your Xbox will automatically obtain an IP address from your PC. You only need this step if your setup requires a static IP address.
- Press the Xbox button to open the guide.
- Select Profile & system > Settings > General > Network settings.
- Select Advanced settings > IP settings.
- Select Manual and enter the following:
- IP address: A unique address in the format 192.168.x.x. Check your router's admin page to see which addresses are already in use.
- Subnet mask: 255.255.255.0.
- Gateway: The IP address of your Windows PC.
Step 6: Verify the VPN is Working on Your Xbox
Once everything is set up, it’s important to confirm that your Xbox traffic is actually going through the VPN.
If your Xbox browser is available, visit an IP-checking site like whoer.net and compare the location shown to your VPN server location. The detected IP/location should match the VPN server you selected on your PC.
