If your ISP (Internet Service Provider) is intercepting, redirecting, or blocking DNS traffic on TCP/UDP port 53, the Smart DNS feature may not work correctly or may fail entirely.
The only way to unblock it is to contact your ISP's technical support and request that they unblock it on your connection. There’s generally no way to fix this issue from your device alone because the restriction is being enforced on the ISP's network.
Why Does This Happen?
Some ISPs use a transparent DNS proxy technology, which intercepts all DNS traffic, including lookups that travel through TCP/UDP port 53, and redirects it to the ISP's own DNS servers, regardless of the DNS settings configured on your device. In other cases, port 53 (DNS) may be intentionally blocked.
In both situations, DNS requests never reach CyberGhost’s Smart DNS servers, which prevents the service from returning the specialized DNS responses needed for it to work properly.
