Smart Rules are useful settings that allow you to customize how CyberGhost VPN works.
To access Smart Rules:
- Click the expand button.
- Select the CyberGhostVPN icon on the sidebar.
- Click Smart Rules.
There are four tabs under Smart Rules. In the following sections, we’ll explain the settings under each tab.

CyberGhost Launch Rules
In the CyberGhost launch rules tab, you’ll find the following settings:
- Connect on launch: If enabled, CyberGhost VPN will automatically initiate a VPN connection when it launches. You can select which server it connects to.
- Delay on launch: This setting is only available if Connect on launch is enabled. Makes CyberGhost VPN wait a certain number of seconds before it initiates the automatic VPN connection.
- Launch an app: If enabled, CyberGhost VPN will automatically launch an app after it establishes a VPN connection.
Wi-Fi Protection
In the Wi-Fi protection tab, you can toggle Activate Wi-Fi protection on or off.
If enabled, you can determine CyberGhost VPN’s behavior when it detects that you’ve joined a secured, unsecured, or saved Wi-Fi network.
The following behavior options are available:
- Never launch a VPN connection: It won’t take any action.
- Ask me what to do: It will display a pop-up message asking you what it should do.
- Always launch a VPN connection: It will trigger a VPN connection.
- Disconnect the VPN: It will terminate your current VPN connection.
Exceptions
If Make Exceptions is toggled on, you can exclude specific websites from the VPN tunnel by adding them to the list of exceptions.
App Rules
If App rules is toggled on, CyberGhost VPN will automatically open and initiate a VPN connection when you launch one of the apps on the list.
