This guide will show you how to change Domain Name System (DNS) settings on your Windows device.
DNS translates domain names into IP addresses, enabling your browser to load the correct pages. Normally, you use your internet service provider’s (ISP's) DNS servers for this. However, you can manually change DNS settings for better security or faster connections.
Note: While you’re connected to CyberGhost VPN, your DNS queries are by default redirected and encrypted through our DNS servers. To change DNS settings, disconnect from the CyberGhost VPN server first.

- Go to Settings.
- Select Network & internet.
- Select Wi-Fi or Ethernet depending on your connection.
- If you’re using a Wi-Fi connection, you may need to select your current connection from a list of available networks.
- Under DNS server assignment, select Edit.
- From the drop-down menu, select Manual.
- Turn on the IPv4 toggle switch.
- Enter the DNS addresses provided by your service of choice under Preferred DNS and Alternate DNS.

- Open the Windows Start menu.
- Click on the gear icon to open the Settings menu.
- Select Network & Internet.
- Click Change adapter options.
- Right-click the connection you want to change DNS settings for.
- Select Properties.
- Double-click Internet Protocol Version 4 (TCP/IPv4).
- Click Use the following DNS server addresses.
- Enter the DNS addresses provided by the service of your choice in the Preferred DNS server and Alternate DNS server fields.
- Click OK to save.
