Having Problems with Windows 10?

CyberGhost VPN may fail to install after a Windows 10 upgrade if system components, permissions, or security settings changed during the upgrade.

After each step, try to install CyberGhost VPN again. If the issue is fixed, you can skip the remaining steps.

System Requirements

Before you start, confirm that your system meets the requirements for installing and using CyberGhost. Here are the minimum system requirements to install the CyberGhost VPN app on a Windows computer:

  • Operating systems:
    • Windows 10 version 1903 and above
    • Windows 11
  • .NET 4.8 compatible PC
  • 1 GHz PC 32-bit (x86) or 64-bit (x64) processor
  • 2 GB RAM (depending on your running Windows operating system)
  • 310 megabytes of free hard drive space (280 MB less, if Microsoft .NET 4.6 is already installed)
  • All operating systems on 32 and 64-bit
  • All processors except for Microsoft SQ1/SQ2/SQ3 and Snapdragon, which are ARM-based processors

Pre-Requisite: Pause Security Software

Before you continue with the guide, make sure you pause your antivirus or firewall to prevent false-positive alarms on the CyberGhost installer. The steps will be different based on the antivirus solution you are using. 

Step 1: Uninstall and Reinstall CyberGhost VPN

  1. Open Control Panel from the Start Menu.

  2. Go to Programs and click Uninstall a program.

  3. Uninstall CyberGhost VPN.

  4. Reinstall CyberGhost by following our steps.

Step 2: Change the Compatibility Mode

  1. Go to the CyberGhost installation folder. It’s usually in Local Disk (C:) >Program Files > CyberGhost 8. Find the CyberGhost VPN executable, right-click it, and select Properties.

  2. Go to the Compatibility tab and check the Run this program in compatibility mode for box. Select Windows 8 in the drop-down. Hit Apply and Ok.

Step 3: Run CyberGhost as Administrator

To run CyberGhost VPN as an administrator, right-click the executable and select Run as administrator. When asked to give administrative permissions, click Yes.

If you want to apply the Run as administrator setting permanently, follow these steps:

  1. Right-click the CyberGhost VPN executable and select Properties.

  2. Go to the Compatibility tab and check the Run this program as an administrator box. Hit Apply and OK.

Additional Troubleshooting: Reset Network Settings

If you are continuing to have issues installing and using CyberGhost on Windows 10, resetting your network settings may help:

  1. Open Command Prompt as an administrator and run the following commands one at a time:

       ipconfig /release
       ipconfig /flushdns
       ipconfig /renew
       netsh winsock reset
       netsh interface ipv4 reset
       netsh interface ipv6 reset
       netsh winsock reset catalog
       netsh int ipv4 reset reset.log
       netsh int ipv6 reset reset.log

  2. Restart your computer.
  3. Try reinstalling CyberGhost again.
