There are two possibilities to automatically protect your device when entering a Wi-Fi network, either by defining the general reaction of CyberGhost to new and/or unknown networks or by assigning a reaction on the fly when entering a specific hotspot.
How to set up the general behavior of your CyberGhost app to new networks
A single finger tap on the bar symbol opens the app menu:
Another one the settings page:
In the app settings page first make sure that the Wi-Fi Auto-Protect option is enabled.
Now specify how you want CyberGhost to react in general, when joining a Wi-Fi network. This can be done separately for Secure Wi-Fis (password protected Wi-Fi networks) and Open Wi-Fis (free access networks) by simply tapping on the respective entry and then choose one of the following actions:
- Ask: Every time your device detects a secure/open Wi-Fi network, CyberGhost asks you if you want to be protected.
- Always connect: Every time your device detects a secure/open Wi-Fi network, CyberGhost automatically starts a VPN connection.
- Terminate connection: If you already have a VPN connection running and you enter a secure/open Wi-Fi network, CyberGhost will disable the VPN connection.
- Never protect: By choosing this option, CyberGhost will ignore secure/open Wi-Fi networks.
How to set up a reaction on the fly to a new specific network
In the upper right corner of the main screen you find a symbol of the current Wi-Fi you have entered or are entering. Simply tap on it and advice CyberGhost, how to react to this specific network now and in the future.
For details on the options available please have a look at the resp. descriptions above.
In case you want to change the reaction type later on, please open the app settings and move to the list of known networks. It can be found below the activation settings for network recognition. Tap on it and re-assign any of the other options to any of all known networks. (More info on the app settings can be found here.)
