This article explains the basic VPN features available on Android devices and how to use them. To jump to a specific topic, select it from the list below:
How to Connect to the VPN
Look up and open the CyberGhost VPN app.
Tap the power button on the main screen. This is the Quick Connect feature. By default, it connects you to the Best Location (the fastest, lowest-load server based on your area).
To view more server options, tap the Best Location button. You’ll see the full list in a new tab, where you can browse by category:
- Countries: Lists all the available countries/cities.
- Streaming: Lists the servers optimized for media and entertainment networks.
- Favorites: Lists servers that you marked as favorites using the star icon.
Tap any specific server to connect directly.
To disconnect, tap the power button again, then tap the X next to the selected server to switch back to the Best Location.
How to Select Streaming Servers
Tap Best Location in the main menu, then select the Streaming tab at the top.
Tap the server optimized for your chosen streaming channel. The app will connect you instantly.
Note: For better streaming results, clear your web browser cache and cookies before playing a video.
How to Mark Favorite Servers
- Tap Best Location in the main menu to expand the list of servers and select the Countries category to view the main locations. For specific cities, tap the arrow next to the country name (if available).
- Tap the star icon next to a location to add that country or city to your Favorites.
- Open the Favorites tab to view your starred locations.
- To remove a server from your favorites, tap the golden star next to it again.
Note: Countries with only one server option don’t show an expansion arrow.
How to Set Up a Dedicated IP
Note: This feature isn’t linked directly to the CyberGhost account. It’s a separate purchase and uses a unique token to activate. For more information, see how to redeem your Dedicated IP on Android.
- Go to your CyberGhost VPN account page and redeem/copy your dedicated IP token.
- In the Android app, tap the Settings icon (cog) in the top-right corner and select the VPN tab.
- Open Dedicated IP, paste the IP token you copied from your account, and hit OK.
- From the app’s homepage, open Best Location > Favorites to find your dedicated IP. Tap the server to connect.
How to Set a Wi-Fi Rule
CyberGhost lets you configure Wi-Fi rules for protected home networks as well as open public hotspots.
- From the dashboard, open Settings > Wi-Fi.
- Make sure that Wi-Fi Protection is on. The toggle should be yellow.
- Under the Wi-Fi Protection tab, tap the network type to choose one of the available connection rules:
- Ask: CyberGhost asks you to enable VPN protection whenever it detects this Wi-Fi network.
- Protect: The app automatically starts a VPN connection as soon as you connect to this network.
- Disable protection: If you already have a VPN connection running and you connect to a (different) Wi-Fi network, CyberGhost will disable the VPN connection.
- Ignore: CyberGhost will not connect automatically, nor send any notification, letting you control your VPN connection manually instead.
How to Use Split Tunnel
The Split Tunnel feature lets you choose which apps route through the encrypted VPN and which apps use your regular internet connection. Without split tunneling, CyberGhost routes all app data through the VPN tunnel by default.
Note: You must disconnect from the VPN before proceeding with the steps below.
- From the VPN tab in settings, scroll down and open App Split Tunnel.
- Tick the apps you want to exclude. This will allow them to bypass the VPN.
