General
See the following settings under the General tab on the Settings screen:
Use Domain Fronting: Routes app traffic through an alternate path to help CyberGhost VPN reach its services. Enable this setting if the app can't connect because a local network blocks CyberGhost domains or related IP addresses.
- Share network data for troubleshooting: Shares connection logs with our support team to help us debug technical issues more easily.
- Haptic response: Uses phone vibrations when you tap buttons in the app.
- Privacy preferences: Shows your Analytics and Marketing data-sharing preferences and lists the third-party providers for each category. You can turn either one on or off.
- Article catalog: Features guides and practical tips to get the most out of your VPN.
-
Report a problem: A form to send support tickets to our team and get help with an issue.
Terms & Conditions, Privacy policy, Imprint: Links to CyberGhost’s legal terms, privacy practices, and company information. Delete my account: An option to request the permanent deletion of your account. - Log out: Here you log out from the current active account. The app switches to the start page, where you can log in again.
VPN
The VPN tab in Settings includes:
- Connection Checker: Tests whether your device can access the internet and reach the CyberGhost network, helping you identify connection issues before using the VPN.
- Dedicated IP: Lets you activate your Dedicated IP token to set up a personal, static IP address.
- VPN protocol: A switch to choose your default VPN connection method. You can select OpenVPN or WireGuard® protocols. The “Auto” setting uses WireGuard® by default.
- Small packet size: Activates a smaller Maximum Transmission Unit (MTU), a setting that automatically adjusts data packet size based on your network conditions. Enable this if you experience speed or connection issues.
- Use random port: Forces the VPN to establish connections through randomly chosen ports that change each time you connect. This feature prevents restrictive networks from identifying fixed ports and slowing or blocking your traffic.
- Content Blocker: Blocks domains used for ads, trackers, and malware.
- App Split Tunnel: Lets you select which apps route through the encrypted VPN tunnel and which bypass it to connect directly to the internet. By default, CyberGhost protects all device traffic unless you exclude specific applications using this feature.
Wi-Fi
This tab has a Wi-Fi Protection feature. When enabled, it automatically prompts you to enable the VPN and secure your data when on new or untrusted networks. We strongly recommend keeping this on to maintain device security on public hotspots.
You can also set permanent default action rules in Unconfigured WiFi. To choose how the app handles a new WiFi connection, tap the category and choose between:
- Ask (default): Prompts you to enable protection every time you connect to a new Wi-Fi network.
- Protect: Automatically activates VPN protection when you connect to a new Wi-Fi network.
- Disable protection: Disables the active VPN connection when you switch to a different network.
- Ignore: Takes no action and ignores all detected Wi-Fi networks.
The Manage Wi-Fi Networks feature at the bottom tracks your saved connections and rules, letting you quickly update default action preferences for any specific network used in the past.
