This guide shows you how to disable IPv6 on your Mac through your network settings. What you can do exactly depends on the macOS version you’re using.
On most macOS versions, particularly newer versions, the closest available setting for disabling IPv6 is the Link-Local Only option. This setting keeps IPv6 enabled for communication within the local network while preventing the Mac from using IPv6 for internet connectivity.
Only some older versions of macOS and OS X included a dedicated Off option in the Network settings.
Tip: If you need to turn IPv6 off completely on a newer macOS version, you can use Terminal instead. See our guide on how to disable IPv6 on macOS from the Terminal.
