Login problems usually come down to a few things: your credentials may be incorrect, the CyberGhost app itself might have a glitch, or your network settings are blocking the device from reaching CyberGhost's login services.
Start Here
Start by checking your login details:
- Make sure you are using your username, not necessarily your email address, to log in. Your CyberGhost username can be different from the email address associated with your account.
- Check the username and password for spelling mistakes.
- Make sure Caps Lock is turned off.
- Check that your keyboard is using the correct language and layout, especially if your password contains special characters.
- Remove any spaces before or after your username or password.
- If you copied your password from a password manager, try entering it manually.
If you don’t remember your login details, follow our guide on recovering your CyberGhost account. If you are logged into your online CyberGhost account, you can change your login details there.
After confirming you’re entering your credentials correctly, select the section that matches your issue.

Can’t Log Into the CyberGhost VPN App
Follow the steps below in order. After each step, open the CyberGhost VPN app and try logging in again.
Step 1: Try Logging Into Your Online Account
If the app doesn’t accept your credentials, check whether the same credentials work on the CyberGhost website.
Go to your CyberGhost online account and enter the same email address and password you used in the app.
- If you can log into your online account: Your credentials are correct and the issue is likely limited to the app. Continue with the troubleshooting steps in this section.
- If you can’t log into your online account: Follow the steps under Cannot Log Into Your CyberGhost Online Account.
Step 2 (Desktop Only): Reinstall the CyberGhost VPN App
If your credentials work on the website but not in the app, some of the app’s files may be outdated or damaged. Reinstalling the app replaces these files and installs the latest available version.
To uninstall and reinstall the CyberGhost VPN app, follow the guide for your device:
Windows
To uninstall the CyberGhost VPN app on Windows:
- Exit the CyberGhost VPN app if it is running.
- Open the Windows Start menu and select Settings.
- Select Apps > Installed apps. On some Windows versions, this may appear as Apps & features.
- Find CyberGhost VPN in the list.
- Select the three dots next to the app, then select Uninstall.
- Select Uninstall again when Windows asks you to confirm.
- Restart your computer.
To install a fresh copy, follow our guide to setting up CyberGhost VPN on Windows.
macOS
Follow this guide to uninstall the CyberGhost VPN app on a Mac. Then follow the steps here to install CyberGhost for macOS.
Linux
To remove CyberGhost from Linux, follow our how to uninstall CyberGhost for Linux guide, then restart your device. Once it restarts, you can reinstall the latest version with this guide: Set Up CyberGhost VPN CLI App on Linux.
If you still cannot log in, continue to the next step.
Step 3: Try a Different Network
A slow or unstable network may prevent the app from communicating with CyberGhost’s login services. Try a different Wi-Fi or switch to mobile data or a hotspot to check if your current connection is potentially causing the issue. After changing networks:
- Close the CyberGhost VPN app.
- Connect your device to the new network.
- Reopen CyberGhost VPN.
- Try logging in again.
If you can log in on the new network, the original network was likely causing the problem. If you still can’t log in, proceed to the next step.
Step 4: Change Your DNS Settings
DNS allows your device to locate services on the internet. If your current DNS service can’t correctly reach CyberGhost’s login services, the app may be unable to complete the login request.
Try one of the following public DNS services:
- Cloudflare: 1.1.1.1 and 1.0.0.1
- Google Public DNS: 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4
Important: Use both addresses from the same provider. Do not combine addresses from different providers.
To change DNS settings, follow the steps for your device below:
